Summers are atrocious, sometimes with an increasing mercury level in the body. The body Reduces heat, or the Pitta (in ayurvedic terms), which determines our metabolism rate. If the body temperature becomes undesirably high, it can disrupt the healthy metabolism and lead to chemical imbalances.
What happens when your body exceeds the maximum temperature?
Hyperthermia or excessive body heat can lead to heat cramps, rashes, stress, and even strokes. A normal person’s body temperature resides within 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit; any temperature above 99 or 100 is considered unnatural or harmful.
Seven ways of Ayurveda to reduce heat in our body
A rise in body temperature during summer is very much normal. Ayurveda suggests keeping your Doshas balanced, i.e., being physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy to remain cool in the summer. Here are a few tips and tricks to reduce your body heat.
- A big no to foods that add to your body heat- avoid eating hot and spicy meals like curries, chilies, etc., instead of green leafy vegetables, coconuts, milk, cherries, pineapples, mangoes, etc. Salty food also tends to dehydrate you.
- Water is your best friend- water helps you stay hydrated and cools down your system.
- Exercise or Yoga- Yoga postures such as Pranayama, suryanamaskar, trikonasana, and meditation help calm your body and eliminate excess heat.
- Massage- Herbal oils are of great help when it comes to reducing body heat. Massaging your body with coconut oil would reduce your body heat and improve blood circulation.
- Herbal Teas- introduce some herbal teas to your post-workout meal. Rosewater, coriander, and cumin seeds help to reduce your body heat.
- Aloe vera has multiple purposes; you can apply it to your skin and consume them to stay cool.
- Do not skip meals! – To maintain your Pitta balance, you must eat your meals at the right time.
